Last night played host to the 87th annual academy awards in LA..The Oscar’s!

The stars came out in their droves to dazzle on the red carpet. Some were hits and some were very big misses.

‘Red’ was a big colour last night with Rosamund Pike nailing the look in her ravishing Givenchy number. Dakota Johnson went for a Saint Laurent number in an attempt to bring back the one shoulder look, while Solange Knowles went for a not-so-great, Christian Siriano creation.

Monochrome is still proving a popular choice at red carpet affairs and last night was no exception. While Patricia Arquette scooped the Best Supporting Actress award for Boyhood, her dress was a tad on the boring side. Julianne Moore won Best Actress for Still Alice, while her Chanel dress was a strong contender for Best Dressed of the night! Reese Witherspoon accentuated her curves in a black and white sexy Tom Ford number.

Maybe this year more so than usual, big fairy tale dresses were in demand! Felicity Jones and Amy Adams showed their love for big and beautiful in grey creations. Amy’s dress was custom made by Oscar De la Renta and was inspired by a black and white photo Amy had found of a vintage dress. Felicity’s dress was made by the in-demand Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. Neither girls won their catagory but at least they won with their style!

Keeping with the fairy tale theme, JLo looked stunning in her Elie Saab gown and looked complete perfection on the red carpet, however disaster almost struck when the ultimate clothing catastrophy happened when wife of Robert Duvall, actress Luciana Duvall turned up in a similar dress, the only difference being that Luciana’s dress was more…peachy. JLo won this dress though. JLo 1 – Luciana 0.

Perfect Princesses on the red carpet also included pregnant Keira Knightley in Valentino Couture and Anna Faris in Zuhair Murad. Laura Dern however looked more like a knight in shining armour in her Alberta Ferreti dress (although i’m actually liking it!)

Looking green and serene was Emma Stone in Elie Saab – who very rarely puts a fashion foot wrong! Scarlett Johansson was blessed with amazing curves and knows how to make the most of them in this beautiful Atelier Versace dress.. although the necklace is waaaaaaay too much and really not needed! America Ferrera has put her Ugly Betty days well and truly behind her in Jenny Packham.

Special shout outs to Lady Gaga and Jared Leto for giving us some weirdness! Gaga looked very elegant in her Azzedine Alaia dress that took a whooping 3 weeks to make by 25 people! The issue I have here is the gloves. What was she thinking?! It’s as if she’s in the middle of some horrific veterinary procedure. Jared Leto’s lavender tux was a huge gamble and if anyone can make a lavender tux work he can…it’s his shoes, they’re just so..white! It makes you want to get a dirty shoe and just treed on them .. or is that just me?!
